On August 5, 2026, the “FET Thoraflex – Live Surgery” workshop was successfully held at the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Center of Viet Duc University Hospital. The event was organized by Thong Nhat Technical Trading and Service Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Terumo and leading cardiovascular surgeons from 108 Military Central Hospital and 103 Military Hospital.

During the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phung Duy Hong Son and other physicians discussed and evaluated aortic pathologies and explored the application of the “elephant trunk” technique in surgical treatment. Dr. Son provided guidance on measurement techniques and appropriate device sizing for the procedure. During the hands-on session, he shared practical insights, strategies for managing specific clinical situations, and key considerations, while addressing questions from doctors representing Hospitals 108 and 103.

Extensive disease involving the entire thoracic aorta—from the ascending to the descending aorta—represents one of the most complex aortic pathologies. Conventional total aortic replacement is a highly complex procedure associated with significant surgical challenges and risks. The “elephant trunk” technique offers a relatively definitive and safer alternative to conventional surgical approaches, providing several potential benefits for both patients and surgeons, including reducing the number of surgical procedures, shortening operative time, and enhancing overall procedural safety.
