From November 14–15, 2025, the Thai Nguyen Department of Health, in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Surgery, successfully organized the 2nd Congress of the Vietnam Association of Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery for the 2025–2030 term, together with the 2025 National Scientific Conference on Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery in Thai Nguyen.
The conference served as a prestigious scientific forum, attracting a large number of professors, associate professors, doctors, nurses, healthcare administrators, and leaders from military and civilian healthcare institutions across the country.
During the Congress, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Association of Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery for the 2025–2030 term was elected, comprising renowned scientists and specialists from across Vietnam. Dr. Nguyen Duc Truong, Specialist Level II – Deputy Director of Hospital A, was honored to be elected to the Executive Committee as a representative of Thai Nguyen Province.
The conference featured more than 300 scientific presentations delivered by speakers from Vietnam and international experts from countries including the Netherlands, China, India, and Thailand.
Under the theme “Sharing Knowledge – Connecting Regions – Advancing Vietnamese Surgery,” the conference focused on the latest research and innovative techniques in surgery and endoscopic surgery, including robot-assisted surgery, the application of ICG in endoscopic surgery, and the use of 3D technology in endoscopic procedures.
A notable feature of the conference was the organization of free pre-conference training sessions for physicians working at grassroots healthcare facilities. The sessions were led by some of Vietnam’s leading surgeons, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Hoang Ha, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Khanh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Truong Thanh, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Thanh.
These training sessions provided physicians, particularly those working in the mountainous areas of northern Vietnam, with opportunities to access and implement modern, minimally invasive treatment techniques, including:
- Arthroscopic knee surgery;
- Percutaneous endoscopic nephrolithotomy for kidney stone treatment;
- Endoscopic treatment of inguinal hernia.
Of particular note, the live surgical demonstrations were performed by specialists from Viet Duc University Hospital and Vinmec Times City International General Hospital. The procedures were broadcast live from the operating rooms of the Central General Hospital to the conference venue, providing delegates with valuable hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for professional exchange.
Hospital A played a key role in organizing the conference and contributed six scientific presentations to the program.
The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including:
- Treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head using total hip arthroplasty with a dual-mobility system;
- Genicular nerve block for postoperative pain management following knee arthroscopy;
- Endoscopic treatment of inguinal hernia using the transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) approach with mesh placement;
- Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE) combined with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in patients with non-obstructive azoospermia;
- Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL) using holmium laser for kidney stone removal;
- Application of a digital pathology system to support rapid intraoperative biopsy diagnosis.
The presentations demonstrated a high level of scientific innovation and practical relevance to clinical practice. They received positive feedback from participating experts and generated active discussion throughout the conference.
