On October 9, 2025, Military Central Hospital 108 successfully organized a specialized scientific seminar on “Technological Advancements in the Treatment of Gastric Cancer” to update on new advances in the treatment of this disease and to strengthen cooperation in the exchange of professional knowledge, training, and scientific research.
At the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan and the surgical team from Military Central Hospital 108 demonstrated a laparoscopic total gastrectomy with D2 lymph node dissection under ICG guidance. The entire surgical process was performed laparoscopically, allowing for faster post-operative recovery. ICG imaging helped surgeons better identify the lymphatic system and lymph nodes surrounding the stomach during surgery, resulting in more thorough and precise lymph node dissection.

The application of ICG in gastric cancer surgery is becoming increasingly popular in developed countries, especially in Japan and South Korea. Recent clinical studies show that ICG-assisted laparoscopic surgery increases the number of lymph nodes retrieved and reduces the rate of missed metastatic lymph nodes.
In addition, the workshop also discussed other modern supporting technologies: from early diagnosis (e.g., chromoendoscopy, AI-assisted endoscopy for detecting precancerous lesions) to new treatments such as neoadjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy, offering hope for improved prognosis for gastric cancer patients.
